Avalanche Stage

'We've wanted to play Download since we were kids,” grins Jesper Malmberg excitedly.

Malmberg is the man on the sticks for Swedish metallers Normandie who are preparing to make their Download Festival début this summer.

Set to open the Avalanche Stage on Saturday, June 10, Normandie are even preparing to début a brand new song and give their fans a first-ever listen to a new tune.

“We are really gonna make Download a special one,” drummer Malmberg told The New Rock Times.

“We’ll be playing a brand new song, a whole new set-list, and are probably gonna be more pumped then ever since we’ve wanted to play this festival since we were kids.”

Normandie's sound is an exciting hybrid of a number of genres with a metalcore foundation but with clear nods to other less likely genres too.

“We all played in different bands before Normandie was formed and as you might know we started out in the metalcore scene,” said Malmberg.

“So as we grew up most of us were really into metal, but as the years past by we started listening to arena rock and pop and that changed the sound of Normandie too.

“I’m pretty sure that our sound will always change just as our lives do, we right songs about the life we live and the sound is kind of reflecting on that too.

“So as long our lives are changing our sound will too.”

Malmberg goes on to explain that he feels the Swedish rock scene is not as strong as it used to be but Normandie are constantly looking forward and taking strides up the metal mountain.

He added: “We will continue evolving as a band, keep releasing new tunes and just hoping that the listeners will appreciate it.

“There are a lot of new things will be coming from the Normandie camp that’s for sure.”
