DOWNLOAD 2016: Royal Republic

Festival revellers looking for someone to blame for the apocalyptic weather need look no further jokes Royal Republic guitarist Hannes Irengård who reckons the rain seems to gravitate towards the Swedish rockers.

This year's festival was coined Drownload by many festival punters after heavy rain turned the site to thick mud – although Irengård grins it was dry for the Royal Republic.

“This weather is shit and it is haunting us,” he says. “It feels like wherever we go this weather follows. It was like this a couple of summers ago too every single place we went.

“It didn't rain for our show which was nice but you guys in the UK are kinda used to.

“We did this in 2011 and then had to take a break from things because of bullshit business reasons for a while. We are super happy to be back. We have a good plan going. Not much has changed since we were here last – it's still raining.”

The Swedish party rock band opened the Lemmy stage on this year's Download Festival, unleashing their party style rock n fun tunes to a sea of fans.

“We got to play the main stage which is kick-ass and we are moving up the bill so in a few years … who knows,” says Irengård.

“Playing festivals is so much fun and I wouldn't miss seeing bands like Rammstein tonight for the world but the schedule at a festival is way stricter than your own show. At one of your own shows you are told by the tour manager to go on stage but you always feel like you have time and go 'yeah, yeah,' but at a festival like this you have to be ready and not late like Axl Rose.”

Royal Republic will return to the UK for a run of headline shows in October continuing to fly the flag for third studio album, ‘Weekend Man’, released earlier this year via Spinefarm Records.

Frontman Adam Grahn confirmed: “A wise group once said, ‘being in a band is like being in a relationship, and concerts are like sex’.

“The return to Download Festival was nothing short of orgasmic on our part, and by the time Royal Republic hit the shores of the UK again in October, the nymphomania will know no limits!”
